What is Pay Per Click (PPC) Marketing?

PPC is a means of online advertising on search engines. It involves advertisers bidding for keywords that they believe their target audience will search for when looking for a product or service that they provide.

When a user searches with these keywords, it will trigger an advert to appear within the search results returned. Adverts appear at the top and on the right hand section of the (organic/natural) search engine results. Advertisers do not usually pay to display their adverts. With CPC (Cost Per Click) bidding, the advertiser pays when a searcher clicks on the advert – hence the term Pay Per Click or PPC. The price paid for the individually chosen (targeted) keyword will differ from advertiser to advertiser, based on their maximum Cost Per Click and their Quality Score (the relevancy of the ad to the search term entered).
